Core Academy co-founder Dr. Roger W. Sanders passed away on November 5, 2018 at the age of 68.  Dr. Sanders contributed an enormous amount of work to Core Academy’s earliest efforts at curriculum development, and he mentored many Christian young people over his career.  Dr. Sanders came to creationism later in his career, after establishing himself as a systematic botanist.  Within creationism, Dr. Sanders was an editor for the Creation Biology Society, as well as contributing articles on speciation, island biogeography, and his own specialty, the plant family Verbenaceae.  Dr. Wood memorialized his friend in a recent blog post.

In honor of Dr. Sanders’s years of service and his love of students, Core Academy of Science is pleased to announce the Roger W. Sanders Memorial Scholarship Fund.  We at Core Academy have long dreamed of a scholarship fund that could support student research and mentoring. We included it in the earliest goals for Core Academy, and it’s only fitting that we dedicate this new program in Dr. Sanders’s memory. The Sanders Scholarship will support students and professors working on their own independent research projects. Our goal is to provide the financial resources to help even more professors carry on Dr. Sanders’s work of mentoring the next generation.

During this holiday season, we are seeking $16,000 to finish our budget year and support the new Sanders Scholarship Fund. Will you help us continue to honor Dr. Sanders’s memory with a generous gift to the Scholarship Fund? Visit coresci.org/donate for more information. We hope you’ll also pray for us as we expand our ministry with this exciting new venture.

For students or scholars interested in applying for a Sanders Scholarship, please check back with us in January for more details on the application procedure.
