The Lord Provides in 2020!
We’re thrilled to announce today that we met our Holiday Fundraising Goal of $25,000! Our total raised was $24,717, which is 99% of what we asked for. Here’s Dr. Wood to explain more:
I’m sure you’ve noticed the last-minute scramble for donations at the end of every year when you get inundated with letters, emails, and ads from every ministry you follow. Nonprofit organizations raise about 35-40% of their support from Thanksgiving to New Year’s Eve, which not only finishes the previous year well but sets up the budget for the coming year. This year for Core Academy, I knew we needed to raise $25,000 to meet our budget for 2019 and to get ready for 2020. This was a big step for us, but I kept telling people that God would provide our needs, whatever those needs were. On the inside, I was really sweating it, thinking, “Oh please, God, provide for our needs!”
On the day after Christmas, we were at $19,000, and there wasn’t a single donation received that day. So I began to “modify” my expectations, and I began praying that we would at least top $20,000. I kept asking people to pray for that $25,000, but I really started thinking about how we would handle missing our goal.
But the Lord answered in a mighty way! Not only did we pass $20,000, we raised more than $5,000 in the last two days of the year! It’s true that we didn’t quite make it to $25,000, but I don’t think that matters all that much. In my book, 99% is a full answer to prayer! Not only that, but it shows that I did not need to worry about what was coming. God knows our needs, and he had everything under control.
I definitely want to thank everyone who contributed, some of you far above and beyond your previous support. Thanks to you, we finished our 2019 fiscal in the black, and we’re ready to start 2020 with a bang. Also thanks to you, I became a personal witness to one more mighty work of God!
What’s next? I’m off to Grand Rapids next week to speak with Darrel Falk at the January Series at Calvin University. You can find more about that here. Then I’ll be speaking at College Station Seventh-day Adventist Church in Texas the following weekend. Then in February, we’re having our annual Smoky Mountain Creation Retreat. If you’re interested in creation and you’ve never been to one of our retreats, you should definitely come. And while you’re at it, bring some students too! We’ve got big plans for the summer, too, but that’s still in the future.
Thanks again for meeting our needs in such a big way! May God bless you in this new year!
