Announcing the 2024 Sanders Scholar!

March 27, 2024 Publications Research Sanders Scholarship 0

Since 2020, Core Academy awards an annual scholarship of up to $4,000 to a student working with an established scholar on a project related to creation and origins.  To date, we’ve awarded more than $20,000, all of which comes from the generous support of hundreds of donors around the country and the world.  To date, six students have enjoyed the blessing of mentorship through this program.

This year, we’re excited to announce the winner of the 2024 Sanders Scholarship is our first repeat scholar, Peter.  Peter won the 2022 Sanders Scholarship, where he worked on a project studying fossil hominins with Core Academy president Todd Wood.  That work was published in the proceedings of the International Conference on Creationism in 2023.

“Peter came to me in the fall of 2023 with a new project of his own design.  He asked me if I thought it was worth applying for another Sanders Scholarship, and I told him, it never hurts to ask,” Dr. Wood said.  “I’m delighted to learn that the awards committee has approved his project, so we’ll be working together once again.”  This new project focuses on what we can learn about locomotion from hominins skeletons.

Peter is an undergraduate student at a university in the midwest US.  As is our policy at Core Academy, we do not announce the last names or other personal details of our Sanders Scholars, to protect them from harassment.

Students and educators can learn more about the Sanders Scholarship by visiting our website.  Applications for the 2025 Sanders Scholarship will open in the summer.  All scholarship decisions are made by a committee of educators and scholars and not by Core Academy staff.  The Sanders Memorial Scholarship Fund is named in honor of Core Academy co-founder Roger Sanders.  You can contribute to the fund by visiting coresci.org/donate.
